IU Student Forced to Wear Michigan Shirt?

Indiana senior Yoni Freedman spent $60 and camped out overnight in order to proudly sport crimson and cream while sitting in the Michigan student section on Sunday – only to allegedly have an usher hand him a maize shirt with “Hail” written on it and told to wear it or leave the arena.
“I asked to see a rule book and said even Assembly Hall allows away fans to wear their own jerseys and we practically invented basketball,” Freedman told Inside the Hall. “They replied ‘We don’t have a rule book, it’s a known athletic policy and you can leave or stay and wear maize and blue or white.’ ”
There is, in fact, a Michigan student section rule that “students with a ticket in the bleachers are required to wear a maize Michigan shirt (preferably basketball related), a Michigan basketball jersey, or a costume. Students who do not comply with this requirement may be moved to the blue or gold sections.”
With all due respect to Michigan, that’s a ridiculous policy. Freedman got the last laugh on Sunday when he watched his team earn a 72–71 win and the Big Ten title.
