Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has Jeopardy Fail

May 18th, 2012| by

No one will confuse UCLA and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings.

As part of “Power Players” week on the show, Abdul-Jabbar made his second appearance on the program and had a failure of epic proportions when given this clue: “The 5 movie ratings in the U.S. are NC-17, R, PG, PG-13 and this one.”

The correct answer, of course, is “What is G?” but apparently Abdul-Jabbar had his mind on other things by answering with, “What is X?”

Responded Alex Trebek: “You went in the wrong direction. We were looking for a G-rating, not an X-rating. Remember Kareem, this is a family show.”

In case you were wondering, X ratings were replaced by NC-17 by the Motion Picture Association of America in 1990.

This wasn’t Abdul-Jabbar’s first gaffe on the trivia program. On his first appearance in 2009, the big man was given a quote about a famous UCLA center as a clue. Abdul-Jabbar guessed himself when the correct answer was Bill Walton. The most embarrassing part? It was his quote.
