Laettner ‘Shot’ Jersey Up for Auction
December 19th, 2013| by Lost Lettermen
The jersey believed to have been worn by Duke’s Christian Laettner when he hit the game-winning, buzzer-beating shot against Kentucky in the 1992 Elite Eight – perhaps the most famous shot in college basketball history – is up for auction.
Lelands.com has set the reserve price for the jersey at $10,000. (For reference, the highest price paid for a game-used basketball jersey is believed to be the $250,000 that a Virginia Squires jersey worn by Julius Erving was sold for at SCP Auctions.) The online auction house showed Darren Rovell a notarized letter in which the cosigner says he has a relationship with Laettner, who gave him the jersey when the 1991-1992 season concluded.
Our picks for who will pony up the necessary cash for it: 1) A die-hard Blue Devils fan who would frame the famed jersey; or 2) A die-hard Kentucky fan who would burn it.
