LSU’s Hester Rewards Miles’ Gamble in ’07
October 7th, 2013| by Lost Lettermen
Of all his “Mad Hatter” moments, LSU head coach Les Miles might have been at his most manic against Florida on October 6th, 2007.
With the Tigers ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since 1959, Miles went for it on fourth down five times against the defending national champion Gators. And all five times, LSU successfully converted – the last of which came on a one-yard run by Jacob Hester on 4th-and-1 with LSU trailing, 24-21, and the ball at Florida’s six-yard line with 2:10 remaining.
Hester would muscle his way in for the game-winning touchdown three plays later and would earn Second Team All-SEC honors for the national title-winning Tigers at the end of the season. Most recently a member of the Denver Broncos, Hester is currently an NFL free agent.
LSU hosts Florida again on Saturday afternoon.
