MSU Statue Defaced With Valpo Gear

March 21st, 2013| by

Nearly 200 miles separate the campuses of NCAA tournament opponents Michigan State and Valparaiso. That wasn’t enough, however, to prevent a campus landmark on the former from being defaced with paraphernalia of the latter.

Late Wednesday night, an unidentified person decorated MSU’s Spartan statue at the entrance to the school’s athletic neighborhood with a sign and hardhat that bore the letters “VU.”

A pair of brothers who attend MSU, Jourdan and Garrison Rasmussen, removed the offending paraphernalia. The latter said he spotted someone in a yellow shirt running away from the scene, and both suspected that the prank was the handiwork of a mischievous Michigan fan.

If the Rasmussens’ hunch is correct, it likely stems from Michigan State fans buying South Dakota State gear to wear in support of the Jackrabbits against the Wolverines on Thursday in Auburn Hills.

We guess turnabout is fair play.
