Ranking the SEC’s Starting Running Backs

May 1st, 2013| by

If an SEC team captures the BCS national championship for the eighth straight year, odds are they will do so with an underclassman handling most of the carries at running back.

Among the six SEC teams to finish in the Top 10 in 2012, only Texas A&M will start 2013 with a senior running back (Ben Malena). The other five teams – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina – are all counting on sophomores for big years. And not out of desperation, either.

In our rankings of the SEC’s starting running backs, our picks for the top three are all sophomores who rushed for 12 or more TDs last year. Additionally, the top two also rumbled for more than 1,100 yards and exceeded 6.0 YPC.

Youth is served and then some among the starting running backs in college football’s most rough-and-tumble conference.
