UL’s Strong Sticks It to ESPN’s Pollack

For football players and coaches, motivation comes in many forms. For Louisville head coach Charlie Strong, his recently came from a slight his team received in advance of its Orange Bowl upset of Florida.

Prior to the game, ESPN’s David Pollack said he expected a big win for Florida. He wasn’t alone in predicting a Gators victory, but the manner of his prognostication lit a fire under Strong and his troops.

“[ESPN analyst David] Pollack got us fired up earlier today, when he said it was going to be a 15-point game in their favor and it was gonna feel like a 30-point game,” Strong said after the win. “And then he said our defense hasn’t played well all year. So this is for him.”

Indeed, Louisville at one point led 33–10 while surrendering just 286 yards of offense for the game and forcing three turnovers. For Strong and Louisville, silencing doubters never felt so good.
