Vince Young Earns Diploma From Texas

May 17th, 2013| by

Vince Young has been through a lot over the last five years. He fell out of favor as the Tennessee Titans’ starting QB despite two Pro Bowl bids, in 2006 and 2009. Subsequent stops with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills went nowhere. And in September, he sued his former agent and financial planner for allegedly misappropriating $5.5 million of his money.

But the former two-time Rose Bowl MVP is taking a big step toward turning his life around by earning his diploma from the University of Texas on Friday — one day before celebrating his 30th birthday.

It’s an accomplishment that Young is so proud of that he ranks it ahead of leading the Longhorns to the 2005 national title.

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for,” Young told on Thursday. “I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”

Young is still intent on landing an NFL roster spot for the 2013 season, and a strong performance at Texas’ pro day in March indicated that he still might have some football left in him. Whether he’s with a team for the upcoming season or not, he now has a college degree he can use for the rest of his life. Vince Young profile
