VT CB Pretends to Shoot Rutgers Players

December 28th, 2012| by

There’s bad timing and then there’s what Virginia Tech cornerback Donaldven Manning did at halftime of Friday’s Russell Athletic Bowl victory over Rutgers in overtime, 13-10.

After the first half concluded, Manning trotted off the field while pretending to shoot Rutgers football players with a gun. Not only was it ill-timed considering that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting took place exactly two weeks ago, Virginia Tech was wearing a decal on its helmets that honored the 58 victims of the Newtown shooting and the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007.

This isn’t Manning’s first lapse in judgment. The freshman from Miami has already been charged with two misdemeanors and three other minor traffic charges while in Blacksburg.

Needless to say, an apology is in order for such an inappropriate gesture at such a sensitive time.
